In a not too remote past, I wasted an unordinate amount of time on wikipedia and its lesser sibling - commons (a wikisite whose purpose is to collect free images and media for use on wikipedia articles). I have since realized the waste of it all. The project(s) closely resemble the time-honored exercise of digging a pit an filling it, except that:It is, in short, a totally vacuous exercise in ego.
Besides, the continuously increasing number of editors makes the management of the project similar to rule-by-comittee nightmare, only dreamed up by the Marx Brothers. A number of the project's adminship (users that have been granted management rights) easily develop a tendency to behave like operetta dictators and often offer one of the best showcases of the damages that a human mind can suffer by simply receiving a tin badge. All of it wrapped in a tale and verbiage of noble purpose and such, obviously (so let's forget I actually took some - not all - of it for some time, OK?).
So I quit wp and its useless ways, but I still go back - perhaps once a month - to look over the remains of my work over there (half dug pits which I used to be very proud of). There is never shortage of folks intent in filling up my old pits, and sometimes the result border on the comical - Kafkaesque comical as in the castle, as it can be read below - an excerpt of my home page as seen here. More (half bitter) laughs can be had by following the links from my hp, and generally visiting the "social" part of the wikis, where ego (or power) crazed geeks club each other with tomes of senseless regulations, tomes whose thickness would make an italian lawyer cringe.
The reason for posting it also here is that, given the heavy whiff of censorship (a couple of days after this exchange, an admin yanked my comments - marked in blue below - from the page: I am currently demanding that they be reinstated) that runs through this (inane) incident, and the scarce inclination of the 'pedia believers to take any form of citicism, I have the feeiling I may be getting the 'pedia boot in the near future (which wouldn't trouble me at all). Short summary for the uninitiated: the first dude is accusing me of making a drawing out a record cover (which I did, as explained) and demands to higher powers that the image be removed (thereby filling one of my residual pits). He also takes the occasion of embarassing himself by showing off (hard to resist, in the company of geeks). Another dude (admin, tin badge shimmering on his chest) comes running au secours and punishes me with harsh words and the deletion of the image. He also calls me lame in the process (that's called "personal attack", a big 'pedia no-no, but admins, evidently, don't care much). Couple of days later - for no given reason - another admin comes along and strikes the underlined passages from the page. Had he deleted all of my comments, his friends would have looked all the better, methinks.

Ho passato diversi inutili minuti col suddetto Sig.

Anybody buying Arena di Verona tickets through their online website would be well advised to exercise the greatest care, or forget about it altogether and use a better system... one that allowed to change the reservation, for instance.
I bought two tickets for a show, charging them on my credit card, and I mistakenly bought them for the wrong date. That did not concern me at the time (it should have): both dates (the one that I actually wanted and the one I had gotten instead) are mor than a month away and seats were available for both. I wrote an email explaining my mistake, to which nobody bothered to answer, so I called the Arena. Their phone system i an horrifying maze, apparently designed to never let you speak to a human. I eventually managed to get someone on the line, a person that identified himself as Francesco Palmisano, a supervisor for their tickting organisation (GeTicket), which explained me what I could do with my tickets. That was easy, because there was basically nothing I could do: either use them, or sell them to somebody who could.
There is no possibility to modify anything about your tickets after you click OK. You can stuff them. Mr. Palmisano blamed it on various rules and regulations for which I had no use at all. He told me that all the (italian: I dealt with ticketmaster in the past and had no such problem). ticket agencies he knows of have the same policy.
I spent several useless minutes with Mr. Palmisano hoping he'd offer some flexibility (no) or options (no). I was told countless times that the mistake had been mine, a fact I never disputed (although a policy of "No cancellation" is not exactly the same as "No variation", at least to these eyes). That's the way they care about their customers. I finally gave up (I was rather livid at this point). After that I called a geTicket's competitor (ticketOne) to ask them about their policy in these occurrences that I figure are far from rare. It turns out that "sometimes" (whatever that means) ticketOne will cancel your ticket (not exchange it). Not much, but still light-years ahead of geticket.
I tried to complain directly to the Arena, but from their site it is impossible to understand where one has to go to file a complaint. And their telephone system won't allow you to speak to a human outside of their ticketing organisation (remember?).
So you have it (and decide). I'll be damn sure that my next purchase with the Arena involves direct human contact. I doubt that I will ever make another one though, considering how they treat people who pay good (and plentiful) money for their tickets (the same I will now have to try to sell to somebody).
